The Dreams of Our PEPY Interns

In January we welcomed six new interns – Rin, Chhorvy, Sokhit, Kimnoing, Seangheng, and Hon! We partnered with PEPY Empowering Youth to provide these internships for these stellar university students.

Sadly, this internship is coming to a close and we will see them leave next month. For six months, they worked as English and IT teaching assistants. They experienced teaching both in person (when the situation allowed) and online classes (after schools closed). They helped us in our daily life and were a great support system. We are very thankful and confident to say that they will be amazing future leaders.

Before seeing them go, we wanted to ask them where they see themselves in five years. We will look forward to seeing them accomplish and flourish in their future life. Let’s discover what they have to share !

“In the next five years, my goal is to establish my own small business alongside my friends. Furthermore, I aspire to become an impactful teacher, dedicated to guiding and supporting young adults. Given the lack of educational support in my village, I aim to share my knowledge and deliver motivational speeches, inspiring the next generation to pursue their studies until high school graduation. Notably, among my village peers, I stand as the sole individual who has completed high school and continued to college. I believe that the only way to change the world we live in to be better is education. ” One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world,” said Malala.”

“Hi, I’m Sokhit. I come from Kralanh district and Siemreap Province. I am 20 years old and now I am studying at the University of South-East Asia in SiemReap Province. I am a second year student and my major is IT. In the future, I want to be an IT teacher at University and one more dream I want to be a Web Developer. So in my free time, I like coding and researching the lesson. In the next 5 years, my expectation is work as an IT teacher at high school and study for a Master Degree.”

Now I am a student, I study at Pannasastra University, and am also a preparation student. My major that I learned at University is TESOL. In 5 years I hope I can see myself graduating from Pannasastra University, have a good job as an English teacher at high school, and have a small business. I love teaching because I can help and share my knowledge with people. Especially the kids that live in rural areas.”

“My name is Hon. I’m 20 years old. I come from Kralanh district and Siem Reap province. I am studying at Pannasastra University. The major that I chose is TESOL. I like reading books and watching native speakers share their experiences. I want to see myself in these 5 years finishing my university and working as a teacher in an organization. And in the future I want to be an English teacher at secondary school and have a small business. I want to be an English teacher because I like sharing and I want to help the children that want to learn English.”
