Playground :

When playing, children discover the concepts of pleasure and sharing. This activity is essential to their fulfillment and allows them to grow with all the necessary confidence.

Playing helps the development of their imagination, to imitate, and to understand the beliefs and intentions of others. It’s a fundamental tool for the development of cognitive, emotional, social, and physical plains.

Children play spontaneously and try to recreate what they see in real life for a better understanding and integration. Thanks to the game, they are to exceed their limits by being curious and exploring. Play also teaches children to be persistent and to be confident in their own capacities.

Being aware of this importance, we decided to reorganize and develop the Anjali’s playground for the greatest pleasure of our students. We took advantage of physical gates close to Anjali to make it in place, during the pandemic. Thanks to the generous donations, we could put a new net for the soccer field, a monkey-bar, a merry-go-round, a swing, a seesaw, a new slide, and a tipper bus.

Gardening :

Gardening awakens the senses. We observe plants, flowers, and bugs. The perfume of flowers appeals to our sense of smell. The texture of the leaves, soft or rough, the soil, dry or wet, calls to our sense of touch. Listening to the little bugs or birds in the garden is a peaceful activity. Finally, harvesting our own fruits and vegetables to bring them at home for cooking gives us a satisfying feeling.

The ecological aspect is also involved in gardening. In explaining each action, children understand quickly that some fruits and vegetables grow only during certain seasons. They will also understand the role of the insects in pollination, how to protect plants from harmful bugs… To know each mechanism allows children a better comprehension of nature and automatically respect it more.

At Anjali, every class takes part in the garden. Each class has its own small garden to cultivate. Our kindergarten students made a wonderful rockery full of colors, flowers and plants. The elementary students learn about compost.  In their garden, they use it to grow vegetables. Recently they planted radishes!  The Future Leaders are way more independent, they know what to do! They grow all sorts of vegetables, plants, and flowers that they happily share with the youngsters.

To introduce the gardening class, we have the practice of memorizing, the name of the fruits and the vegetables in English. Then we ask each student to write them on the board. We encourage and congratulate them for their hard work. We remind them as well of the importance of recycling and composting.

Art :

The artistic activities stimulate the imagination, facilitate expression and especially energize the creative process of the child. Concentration, observation sense, rigor, and patience are just some of the many benefits of artistic activities. To introduce the children to art and to help them develop their creativity to invent new languages and open the way to new learnings.

It also gives an environment without a strict structure and rules to give the child a chance to express themselves without limits. They can be free and creative while respecting each other, their projects, and the materials. To finish, artistic creativity allows one to develop fine motor skills and the coordination of movements. The child learns to hold tools correctly and to make increasingly precise gestures.

At Anjali House, once per week, each class does an art workshop. We try, when we can, to link our workshop with gardening and to make them as ecologically friendly as possible. We use recycled materials like plastic, or everything around us, like the vegetation. Children learn that with less, we can make a lot.
